A life called Bloomberg

Its been month and half that I joined Bloomberg LP in Mumbai. Both Mumbai and Bloomberg have been fantastic. Since I was trying to settle down, I could not blog much. But I assure more blog posts with more industry trends and insights.

Coming to Bloomberg, a life worth living. Trust me, its one of the best organization to work for. Be its luxurious pantry serving soft drink, maggi, chocolates, breakfast, lunch (all for free!!) or its great training, parties (one international also per year), I love it all. I am bound to gain 15 pounds but does it matter? Nah...

Well I have joined into Analytics department which has opened for first time in India and I feel its a great opportunity to set the benchmark. We have great office which is appreciated by all visitors. The greatness of this organization lies in its transparency and trust on employees. Bloomberg commands respect from employees. During recent very unfortunate Mumbai blasts, Bloomberg called each employee in Mumbai from New York to make sure if they are fine and require any assistance.

When I came to Bloomberg, I met few of the best brains. I tried to figure out a name for Bloomberg employees, like trippers for makemytrip, infosians for Infosys but I could not find one. I feel its great opportunity for me to propose a name through this post. After thinking of Bloombergers, Booms, Boomers, I zeroed upon to "Bloomers". Your suggestions and comments are welcome.

In India, Bloomberg has tie-up with UTV for Bloomberg UTV new channel and Bloomberg India. Bloomberg India is indian part of Bloomberg LP which is world leader for financial data., news and analytics. We primarily make Bloomberg terminal.

I will keep on writing about my days in Bloomberg. I wish to summarize this organization by saying "Its Bloomberg!" because nothing else match.

New - ZIP and RAR preview on Gmail and Google Docs

You may not always need to download any mail attachment; just view and check if everything is in place. The “view” feature helps you to do this tak. In case of compressed mail attachments, however, you are required to download them whether you want or not. Thanks to Google, now you can use Google Docs Viewer to preview compressed file types ZIP and RAR as well. With the new “view” button, you can now view all the contents within your browser.

After you have clicked on view button, the ZIP/RAR file is opened in a new tab where you get to see the contents of the file. When you hover over the list you can activate a menu by clicking Actions. You’ll be able to View items supported by Google Docs Viewer and Print (PDF) those that we offer PDF support. Save to Google Docs and Download appear for all files.

µTorrent to come in a paid version soon

You've probably seen paid versions of µTorrent before on shady websites, offering faster speeds, or more torrents, but this time it's official!
µTorrent has to be one of the most popular torrent clients of all time, and for good reason. It has a large number of features, including remote access, streaming, applications etc, while still maintaining an astonishing sub-1MB size.
Way back in 2006, BitTorrent Inc. the maintainers of the BitTorrent protocol purchased µTorrent, and took over its development, and some of the recent major features such as support for apps, streaming, sharing, remote access etc have some since then.
The new paid version of the application will exist in parallel to the current free version, which will continue to be offered, and will continue to be developed with the same level of commitment. The new version will be called µTorrent Plus.
So what does µTorrent Plus offer? Well, the details are slim for now, however they do say that "µTorrent Plus is designed for people who are looking for a single solution to find, get and play content anywhere, on any device. Hassles with codec and conversion issues, struggles with device shifting, and more will be a thing of the past."
From this one can assume that media management and encoding facilities will be some of the features offered, and considering patent licences it is understandable why they might need to charge for this functionality.
A beta program is available for those that want to jump of the µTorrent Plus bandwagon as soon as possible. More details on that here.
