Why give IMT Ghaziabad a miss this season?

The latest increase in intake for Institute of Managament Technology (IMT) Ghaziabad’s PGDM programme has prompted me to write this article. The total intake has crossed 500 and mind you its IMT and no IIM. I will look at it in two perspectives:

1. Decrease in percentile for admissions
2. Sacrifice on job quality

There has been tremendous pressure of IMT Ghaziabad in terms of admitting students. The same admission form is used to admit students ranging from as low as 25% percentile in IMT Dubai to 95% in IMTG. The focus is certainly missing. What's more PGDM(MBA) is no engineering degree and students with work-ex like to have quality placements. If placements are happening where Tech firm is taking 100+ students I have my doubt to call it a placement even.

IMTG had never been like this and I have been admiring the institute for long. The institute has produced quality managers and had been serving nation for long. Only recently, there has been a shift to convert it to a money making machine. IMT name has been diluted to say the least with a student studying in distance learning to a student studying in IMT Hyderabad which is yet to make a name.

Few thoughts for aspirants to ponder upon:
  • Increasing fees (What’s the ROI???)
  • Pressure on quality of students with increased intake (Not long before we heard about the student unrest in IMT over the same issue)
  • Decreasing high end management jobs at IMT (With 500+ students, can you get your dream job in a company looking to hire 2 candidates. What is your visibility?)
Through this article, I wish to ask why an aspirant with 95+ CAT percentile should join IMT?

95%ile means about 10,000 best candidates (CAT Takers) willingly (or may be desperately due to different personal and professional reasons) looking for getting admission in top 15 B-schools located across country which have about 4000 Seats (Averaging about 250+ seats each B-School) across different specializations. Don't you think that the demand is much more than supply. Hence a simple demand-supply concept is sufficient to understand and explain the reason of n number of applicants dreaming of getting a seat in IMT Ghaziabad. Even if u secure a seat in IMT having 500+ seats, you are one of the winners among best 10,000 CAT takers in country and a total of 2,00,000 CAT takers in country and about 3 lacs MBA aspirants in country.

I am not saying its the worst institute to join but with such high fees & low ROI. A brand name that is going down, one can look out for other avenues.

May be people join this institute after having looked at all other possibly better institutes.
